Public Opinion Polls

A Pew Global Attitudes survey in 2006 on How Westerners and Muslims View Each Other found that there are discrepancies between European Muslims and Muslims in the Middle East. Muslims in the Middle East more readily associate negative characteristics such as selfish, arrogant, violent, greedy, immoral, and fanatical, to Westerners than European Muslims. When asked about positive characteristics associated with Westerners, European Muslims more readily attributed to them qualities such as generous, tolerant, honest, and respectful of women. The results also showed that Muslims are more critical of Westerners than vice versa.
