In addition to her role on the U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy, Maria Sophia Aguirre is an Associate Professor of Economics at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. where she specializes in international finance and economic development.

She earned her undergraduate degree and MBA in Argentina, and attended the University of Notre Dame for her M.A. and Ph.D in Economics. She has been a Visiting Professor at Northwestern University and the University of Chicago in previous years.

Aguirre often publishes research on population and family, and has served as an advisor to several U.S. representatives and UN delegates. She has been appointed to many committees dealing with economics, women, family, and international relations.
